There is information about a young man badly injured last week in a pedi-cab crash caused by a suspected drunk driver.
The father of 21-year-old Michael Tysver says his son, whose spine was separated from his skull, is no longer on a breathing tube.
Michael is said to be weak, but alert and talking.
Early Friday morning, police say Michael and a friend were in town from Kansas for the Fiesta Bowl.
They were riding back to their hotel in Scottsdale in a pedi-cab.
The pedi-cab driver was in the median lane of Scottsdale Road, near Rose, when the pedi-cab was hit from behind.
In addition to Michael's injuries, his friend Cody Clark suffered a cervical spine fracture. The bike rider suffered cuts.
Officers say the driver who caused the wreck, Joseph Spano, pulled into a parking lot where police caught up with him.
Court records show his eyes were bloodshot and he mumbled and slurred his words. Officers say they could smell alcohol on his breath, and say he was swaying back and forth and had trouble balancing.
Spano is charged with three felony counts -- including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The investigation is ongoing.
