Community holds rally to keep bank open

Posted: Updated:

An Atlanta community is fighting to keep a Bank of America branch open.

Almost 500 residents have signed a petition urging Bank of America not to close the branch located on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway.

Community members say that will leave the neighborhood without access to reputable financial services.

"This particular bank serves an elderly community, our senior citizens. Many of them walk to the bank. If they drive here, it's close and convenient. It's in our community," said Collier Heights resident Gwendolyn Smith.

State Sen. Vincent Fort and Atlanta City Councilwoman Felicia Moore listened to citizens' concerns at a rally on Tuesday.

The branch is set to close in March.
