Passenger Opens Fire On Deputies With AK-47 During Chase

(AP) Investigators say an assault rifle-clutching gunman opened fire on Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies during a car chase that ended with a crash and the arrest of two men.

Deputies weren't hit by the AK-47 gunfire.

The deputies on patrol Tuesday evening in Lynwood when they heard gunfire and spotted a car speeding away from a wounded man in the street.

During a chase, a sheriff's news release says a man in the passenger seat of the fleeing car leaned out of the window and began shooting at pursuing deputies with an assault rifle.

The car crashed in Compton and the driver was arrested. The passenger ran away but he was captured a short time later.

The shooting victim is hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds.
