NYPD: Armed teen runs into Brooklyn school

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A 17-year-old suspect, Earl Gilbert of Brooklyn, was running from a shooting a few blocks away from P.S. 45 in Bushwick at about 2:50 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Cops said he was armed with a gun when he allegedly ran right into the lobby of the school with his hand on the gun and was taken down by a janitor and school safety officers

Police arrested him.

The school was locked down. Although classes had been dismissed, some kids were still in and around the school.

Some parents told Fox 5 that school officials didn't tell them about the incident.

The Department of Education said the incident is not considered to be school-related because it happened after dismissal. Therefore it is the principal's call on whether to inform parents about it.

The principal rejected our requests for an interview.
