PLAINFIELD, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities are looking for a suspect who opened fire on a street in Plainfield, shooting a 5-year-old in the face.
Authorities believe the boy was not a target and was hit by a stray bullet.
Plainfield Public Safety Director Martin Hellwig tells the Courier News of Bridgewater the bullet entered the child's mouth and lodged in his throat. He's in critical condition.
Hellwig says police have recovered evidence and are following leads that they hope will end with the arrest of the gunman.
