Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled a new search feature called "graph search."

The company said that this early version of Graph Search focuses on four areas: people, photos, places, and interests.

Until now, Facebook users were unable to search for friends who live in a certain town or like a particular movie. With the new feature, people can search for friends who, for example, live in Boston who also like the film "Zero Dark Thirty."

"Facebook's mission is to make the world more open and connected. The main way we do this is by giving people the tools to map out their relationships with the people and things they care about," Facebook said in a statment. "We call this map the graph. It's big and constantly expanding with new people, content and connections. There are already more than a billion people, more than 240 billion photos and more than a trillion connections."

For example, Facebook points out that you can search for key phrases such as "photos I like," "photos of my family," "photos of my friends before 1999," "photos of my friends taken in New York," "photos of the Eiffel Tower."

Zuckerberg said the search feature is "privacy aware." That means your search results will only reveal items that are public or that have been shared with you.

Graoh Search is in beta, so it is not yet functional for all Facebook users. To get on the waitlist, go to:
