DeKalb County's CEO announced on Thursday that he has hired a legal team in response to a grand jury investigation. Attorneys for Burrell Ellis claim prosecutors have not dealt with him in good faith.
The DeKalb CEO has appeared twice before the DeKalb County grand jury and he says he has answered all of their questions.
The grand jury is reportedly investigating allegations of bid-rigging for county contacts. He denies doing any wrongdoing.
But after having his office and home searched by investigators, Ellis has hired a legal team headed by former DeKalb District Attorney J. Tom Morgan.
At a news conference on Thursday, Morgan blasted current DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James. Morgan also charges that James' office lied to Ellis about the grand jury, and says the district attorney's office is out of control.
"It's against the law for a citizen to lie to law enforcement. Unfortunately, there is no law prohibiting law enforcement to lie to a citizen. If the district attorney's office will lie to the CEO, what citizen is protected from any subterfuge in this county," Morgan said.
Ellis' legal team also accused the district attorney's office with tipping off the media when their investigators searched Ellis' home last week.
The DeKalb County district attorney's office did not response to FOX 5's request for comment.
