Violence in Laguna Nigel? "It's rare" says Orange County Sheriff's Spokesman Jim Amormino. But, at 1:25 this morning a chilling 911 call in from a 25-year-old man who said he shot his wife.
When help arrived at 30161 Pacific Island Drive they found 24-year-old Johanah Wade shot once in the upper torso. First responders unsuccessfully tried to give CPR. She was later rushed to Mission Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Her husband was taken for questioning, but as of this time has not been arrested.
Amormino says this is a "death investigation" and "yes, the husband said he shot the wife, but investigators have to figure out why."
Homicide by definition means one person causing the death of another, but that doesn't always imply murder. In a death involving a gun there could be an accidental firing, he says. There could also be self defense. He didn't say either of those is the case here -- just that investigators have to figure this out.
The sheriff's deparment says Johanah was a dental assistant. Neighbors say the husband worked at a gun shop and that he had multiple firearms in the apartment.
Other neighbors like John Lagouros describe Wade and her husband as a quiet couple. Todd Nealeigh says when he'd see them they were friendly. According to Jim Amormino this is the first time his department has gotten a call at the Nigel Summit Apartments.
