CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Here's just one more reason to get upset about the gun violence in Chicago. It's now starting to interrupt the memories and fun times high school students should have at sporting events.
Nothing like a good basketball game.
Morgan Park and Simeon--two of the best boys varsity teams in the state--played last week. Because they are big South Side rivals, Chicago public school officials had the two teams meeting and playing at Chicago State University.
At the end of the game, a fight broke out causing such a distraction that I can't tell you "who" even won the game.
The team shakes hands when all of a sudden a fight breaks out. The teams are rushed into the locker rooms, while fans are sent out into the parking lot.
Chicago police say rival gangs met up out there, shots were fired amongst the crazy commotion, and within minutes of the game ending, Tyrone Lawson--a 17-year-old senior honor student from Morgan Park--was killed. He was shot in the back while trying to run away from the crowd.
Two people are in custody and CPS officials are trying to determine if they will continue to allow spectators in the stands.
A basketball game with no students, no fans, and no cheerleaders. What? It's just not fair. Not fair to the juniors, seniors, and students who want to be there for what they're supposed to be there for.

It is Mother's Day and sadly while many people are making plans like dinner and brunch reservations with their children and loved ones, too many mothers have lost a child to gun violence.
