Can't ask for much better weather. Temperatures will climb over the weekend into the 80s Downtown and the inland areas and mid 70s at the beach. Dangerous Rip Current - so keep an eye on the little ones in the Ocean. Don't forget the sunscreen!
WEEKEND HIGH TEMPS:
BEACHES: 76
DOWNTOWN: 81
VALLEYS: 82
MOUNTAINS: 66
A deep low pressure system over the western north Pacific days ago produced winds near hurricane force out over the open ocean. These strong winds whipped up seas as high as 45'. The seas gradually organized into swells which are marching towards the west coast of a north America.
This long period northwest swell will begin to arrive at our local beaches Saturday afternoon and should peak late Sunday. West and northwest facing beaches will see surf in the 4-6' range with some sets of 8' or higher. Parts of Oxnard, El Porto, the Redondo Beach breakwater and Palos Verdes will likely see some of the best surf. Weather conditions for you experienced surfers who plan on heading out should be nice with sunny skies, mild temperatures and mostly LIGHT winds.
Because this will be a long period swell, there will be a lot of long intervals between large waves. If you are at the coast this weekend to enjoy the nice weather, stay away from the shoreline and off rocks and jetties. The surf will start to decline Monday.
Be careful out there!
