NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Halloween maybe is several months away but that didn't stop some people from getting into costume for a horror festival on Long Island.

Organizers of the 2nd Annual Macabre Faire Film Festival say there's nothing else like it in the area and the unique scares are attracting fright fans from all over.

"The ambiance, the atmosphere, the environment is so on the money – it's a horror fan's nightmare come true," said one participant.

It's absolutely fascinating. I've never seen so much outrageous makeup and costumes. It's very frightening being here," added another festival goer.

The Macabre Film Festival has set up shop in Rockville Centre, Long Island.

Organizers say anyone who loves a good scare will find something fun.

"I've got so many characters that are waiting to take pictures with everybody like Freddy Kruger and Jason (Friday the 13th)."

The festival is also a chance for actors, directors and makeup artists to share tips on horror movie magic.

"We're going to probably incorporate some of this into the movies that we're producing."

And Indie films that have been under the radar are getting a chance to shine.

"People are really making these absolutely brilliant films that look and sound incredible, with lower budgets. And it tends to be the most creative and inventive filmmaking that we're seeing now."

So whether you're faint-hearted or unflappable, festival-goers have the same message:

Please come to the annual Macabre Faire Film Festival unless you're a fan of boredom.

If you're not too afraid to check it out, the festival continues Sunday at the Best Western Mill River Manor Inn in Rockville Centre.

An all-day pass costs $25.
