A major construction project could affect commuters on Tuesday, and for months to come.
"It's going to back up traffic even more. It's already congested as it is, what's the point in redoing it?" asked driver Shawn Robinson.
Starting Monday night, signs alerted drivers that the Georgia Department of Transportation shut down the on and off HOV ramps on Interstate 85 at Lindbergh Drive.
They'll remain that way for six months as work continues on the Interstate 85/Ga. 400 interchange project. Crews will eventually work in the area on a bridge foundation for the interchange, connecting the two major highways.
"The thing is, it takes forever to get to work, so I don't know how long it's going to take to do construction on 400. So they need to finish it as soon as possible because it's the busiest place in Atlanta, pretty much," said driver Serkan Cetin.
Drivers anticipated a rough go of it for those unaware of the big changes.
Cetin told FOX 5 he thinks drivers are going to have to their homes earlier to get to work.
"It's going to be real bad. I live out in Conyers but I know people who use that roadway. It's bad enough now, so it's going to magnify the situation," said Robinson.
Drivers are encouraged to use Cheshire Bridge Road as an alternate route.
More lane closures are expected as the project advances. The ramps are scheduled to reopen by the end of July.
