Yuma Police say a dangerous inmate escaped from the City of Yuma Municipal Court and then carjacked a woman.

Tuesday afternoon, officers responded to the area of 16th St and 4th Ave on reports of a man wearing a jail uniform and restraints, fleeing.

The man then approached a female victim and forcibly took her vehicle.

Yuma Police have identified the suspect as 28-year-old Raul Dominguez. He stole a white 2002 Mazda van with Arizona license plate 710HNE.

About 2 hours later, the van was spotted by the US Border Patrol. They tried to pull over the van but Dominguez stopped the van and fled on foot, wearing a white T-shirt and tan pants.

Mexican and U.S. authorities both assisted in the search, but Dominguez was not located. He may have crossed the border.

Dominguez was at the courthouse to answer to several offenses from the day prior.

His escape is under review. Police have not released any more details of what happened.

Anyone with information is asked to call police immediately and not to make contact with the suspect.
