Big Attendance Expected At OC Gun Show This Weekend

Posted:
Costa Mesa, CA -

The renewed debate over gun control laws may push attendance at this weekend's gun show in Orange County to record levels.

Gun shows are suddenly very popular. In the aftermath of the Newtown, Connecticut, school shootings, in the thick of a gun debate following the Glendale City Council's action to ban firearms sales on city owned property -- and a day after Senator Dianne Feinstein's announcement of a proposed assault weapon's ban -- an Orange County gunshow braces for what may be an unprecedented crowd.

Crossroads of the West Gun Shows is predicting some 20,000 or so could walk through the doors of the Orange Country Fairgrounds Exhibit Buildings and check out tables from hundreds of gun, ammo and accessory sellers. Normally, they say, it's more like 10-15,000.

Crossroads produced the gun show a couple of weeks ago in Ontario. They expected some 8,000 visitors, but were surprised when 16,000 showed up.

There may be many reasons for the increase, such as concern that new anti-gun legislation could make some firearms unavailable.

Whatever the case, added security has been hired for the weekend show to make sure they have more people on hand for the possibility of more people showing up.

The show opens at 9 am Saturday and runs through Sunday.

I met the folks from Gunnar Optiks at CES this year and they had something new to show me. The Intercepts. I have a big head, these are big frames, it was kismet but do they work as good as they look? We'll see.
