Copper Theft Leaves Elementary School Without Power

Posted: Updated:

Muscoy, California -- No computers, no pencil sharpeners, not even lights at Vermont elementary, where 400 students and their teachers did the best they could while electricians and sheriff deputies worked around them trying to figure out who came in during the weekend and stole all copper wiring.

Hot lunches were brought in, and many classes were held outside in the warm sun -- but the children made the best of it. Generators are going in, but it will take weeks to repair the damage.

The San Bernardino sheriff is asking the public for help in this theft.

It will cost ten to twenty times whatever the robbers sold the copper for, to complete repairs at the school.
