The 'Snot Flu' Is On The Rise Here In California

Feel like wearing a mask? Who could blame you!

By all accounts we are in the midst of one of the worst cold and flu seasons in years. Local emergency rooms are operating at capacity taking care of patients sickened with potentially serious respiratory infection.

One causing lots of misery right now is called Respiratory Syncytial Virus or RSV, according to Dr. Mark Morocco from the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. It's slang name, he says, is the "Snot Flu."

The latest report from the California Health Department shows roughly half of patients tested for the flu last week are in fact infected with RSV.
