Arrest made aboard bus in string of assaults

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A suspect wanted in connection with a string of vicious assaults on Asian-Americans in Manhattan has been arrested.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said NYPD officers and NJ State Police made the arrest aboard a bus at 11:30 p.m. on Monday near Exit 2 of the New Jersey Turnpike.

The suspect, Jason Commisso, 34, was reportedly headed to Virginia and San Antonio, Texas when he was taken into custody.

"He did not put up a struggle," Commissioner Kelly said.

He was awaiting extradition Tuesday.

A photo of Commisso identified by police as the attacker was released on Monday.

Commisso has a long rap sheet including more than 30 arrests, according to Kelly.

He allegedly targeted Asian-Americans in East Harlem and parts of the Upper East Side in a string of attacks since January 17th.

"(In) the eight robberies and assaults, all of the victims were Asian. All were struck- nose broken, teeth broken; money and cell phones were taken," Kelly said in an interview on Monday's Good Day New York.
