Katee Sackhoff from ‘Battlestar Galactica' and ‘Longmire' co-starring in the new thriller...‘The Haunting In Connecticut 2.'
"Battlestar Galactica' and "Longmire" fans
know Katee Sackhoff very well. Today,
she stopped by Good Day LA to tell us about her new horror film, "The
Haunting in Connecticut 2". I was so excited to meet her not only because
she's a great actress and seems like a really cool chic....but because we have
something in common. We both had thyroid cancer and we we're both we diagnosed
at 27 years old. I just had to let her know that we were "Thyroid Cancer
Survivor Sisters".
Katie has been very vocal about being a cancer survivor
and the struggles she faces each day as result. When I got diagnosed, 5 years
ago, I devoured everything I came across on the web regarding thyroid cancer
and that's when I came upon her story. It felt so good knowing that there were
other women out there going through the exact same thing I was. So, I felt like
I had a bond with Katee before we even met. During our interview today she said
hearing the "c word" was really difficult..especially at that age. We
were both able to relate to what a "sucker punch" that was to realize
you have cancer and you are not in fact "invincible". Okay, so maybe
we're not invincible...but we are survivors! We are both about 5 years post
thryroidectomy (the surgery where the entire thyroid is removed) and we take a
drug called Synthroid each day. We talked about how life after cancer can often
be the hardest part and discussed some of our day to day struggles. But, Katee
does not let any of this get in her way! What "c word"?!? Today she
was happy to report that she is cancer free, happy, healthy, has a new film, a
TV series and she's ENGAGED!!!!
So, life is good!! Look out for Katee in her new film the
"The Haunting in Connecticut 2" and in a brand new season of "Longmire" on A&E.
It was so happy Katee and I got to compare notes. We're
part of a club (that's growing rapidly)...and you may be too. But, we're in
good company....Brooke Burke-Charvet, Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Grey, and
Catherine Bell are all ThyCa Survivors (and just look how fabulous they are)!
If you're going through this... know we are right there
with ya! Shout out to my "Thryroid Cancer Survivor Sisters" (and
brothers)!!
