Tempe police search for carjacking suspect

Posted: Updated:
TEMPE, Ariz. -

Police are asking for the public's help to find and identify a suspect involved in a carjacking and kidnapping case.

Back on January 29 around 6:10 p.m., police say an unknown suspect committed armed robbery and kidnapping in the Fry's Marketplace parking lot near Baseline Road and McClintock Drive.

Authorities say the suspect asked the victim for a ride, then threatened to shoot him if he didn't give him cash.

While the victim was able to escape, the suspect stole his vehicle and fled the area.

Police say just prior to the attack on the male, the same suspect attempted to kidnap a woman in a Walgreens parking lot near McClintock Drive and Guadalupe Road.  She was able to defend herself and the suspect fled the area on foot.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male in his mid-20s to mid-30s, 5' 8" to 5' 10" tall with a medium build and thin beard.  He was seen wearing a white baseball hat, white long sleeve shirt under a dark colored t-shirt and dark Nike jacket with a white "swoosh" on the back.

If you have any information about this suspect, call the Tempe Police Department at (480) 350-8311 or Silent Witness at (480) WITNESS (948-6377).
