Sarai Sierra murder investigation

Posted: Updated:

Police in Turkey are looking closely at material found under the fingernails of Sarai Sierra, sources said. It could be a sign she bravely tried to fight off her killer

Meantime, the family of the Staten Island mother is struggling with the heartbreaking task of telling her sons.

Since January 21, when Sierra did not return home, her two sons have been in seclusion away from school, television and any other exposure to what may have happened to their mom.

Before he left for Istanbul, Steven Sierra, her husband, told their sons he was going to pick mommy up from her vacation. Soon he will have to tell them the devastating truth: that the mother they loved so much is gone forever.

Police in Turkey have questioned more than 20 people, and are collecting DNA from them to see if it connects them to the crime. The Istanbul police chief said Sierra died from a single blow to her head, but local news reports say she was badly injured.

The formal autopsy report will not be released for a week, but former FBI Agent William Daly believes there will be an arrest.

Many donations have poured in to cover the cost of bringing her back and for her burial.

Her best friend told me that as much as they want Sarai home, they want Turkish police to be thorough and not release her body until they have absolutely everything they need to catch her killer.
