Manhunt For Ex-LAPD Cop: A Reporters Perspective

Posted: Updated:
Los Angeles, CA -

I've been on TV in LA for 31 years. Never have I seen what I am seeing today. A major police department in the crosshairs of an ex-cop-turned-murder-suspect. A manifesto from a 33 year old man saying he has nothing to lose as he as he wages an offensive against those he feels had something to do with a firing he thought was unfair. His firing for making false claims. Christopher Dorner, acting like a victim in the pages of a manifesto he posted, asks journalists to look into a list of things, threatens officers and vows to clear his name.

"This is a vendetta against all law enforcement!" That's what the Chief of Police Charlie Beck as he listed the allegations.

"It's scary!" That's what a police officer here in Corona told me off-camera. It was in Corona that an LAPD officer was shot and grazed in the head - allegedly by Dorner. That LAPD officer didn't want to be on TV, but said this is very unsettling because there is no way to know where he might pop up next. It's true. This is a day that officers are on-guard. A high ranking LAPD officer tells me that motorcycle officers have been told they have to ride in patrol cars today "for safety." I've never been heard that before.
