Starry Kitchen & Labobatory
Chinese New Year (Sunday, February 10) is the most important holiday in Chinese culture, but Chinese New Year's Eve dinner is when the party really begins. So where better to celebrate than at the wildest food party in town? Starry Kitchen (the formerly illegal and underground apartment-restaurant) is hosting a Saturday night feast at their permanent pop-up at Tiara Cafe in Downtown LA on February 9 with plenty of Asian delicacies and the rarely-made Singaporean chili crab that's smothered in a really tasty spicy sauce that creeps up on you, so proceed with caution. Even better, Labobatory, the pioneer of Asian mixology and creator of "adult boba," will be doing a special boba-beer pairing to wash it all down. Gung hay fat choy!
Uncle Darrow's
The Big Game in New Orleans is over, but the Big Easy fun continues thanks to Fat Tuesday on February 12. LA's own Uncle Darrow's is where you can get all the flavors of the Bayou ... without the beef or pork. (Yes, it's true!) The ultra-casual, family-owned restaurant in Marina del Rey is your one-stop spot for Southern delicacies such as gumbo, fried catfish, jambalaya, red beans and po' boy sandwiches. Uncle Darrow's will be among the many food vendors this Friday-Sunday during Mardi Gras 2013 at the Orange County Fairgrounds and they're also hosting their own Mardi Gras celebration with live music at the restaurant on Saturday, February 16. Let the good times roll!
