ATLANTA -
Most of metro Atlanta and central Georgia and are under a Flood Watch through Wednesday afternoon as heavy rain moves through the area. The watch was issued because of recent rainfall; runoff from rain expected over the next few days could cause lower-lying areas to flood.
The FOX 5 Storm Team says that 1 to 3 inches of rain has already fallen in many areas, with 2 to 4 more inches possible in the next day or so.
FOX 5 Storm Team chief meteorologist Ken Cook said the rain will return on Tuesday morning and continue throughout the day and into the night, Ken says. The rain should taper off on Wednesday morning.
The weather may to blame for an accident on Interstate 285 at Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway which left a car smashed in, and a 18-wheeler on its side. Another tractor trailer overturned on I-285 but on the east side ramp to Interstate 20.
This rain isn't only impacting the roads. There are reports of trees coming down across several metro Atlanta neighborhoods. A tree fell down on Kimball Road in southwest Atlanta. No one was hurt, but a home was damaged. A tree fell across Moores Mill Road, bringing down power lines and shutting off power to some residents in the area.
Officials are urging motorists to slow down on the rain-slicked roads.
A chance of rain continues through Wednesday.
