UFC’s Dan Henderson Would 'Absolutely' Fight Chael Sonnen

Los Angeles, CA -

Despite being 42 years old, Dan Henderson is still fighting at an extremely high level having won 7 of his last 8 fights and is ready to fight for the UFC's light heavyweight belt again.

So after being passed over for a title shot by Chael Sonnen, you can understand why he said he would "absolutely" fight his friend if the title were on the line.

"We're in a sport and sometimes friends have to fight," Henderson said. "It's not a fight I'd be asking for or wanting.  But if he has the title he has to fight whoever and if I'm the guy to have the next title shot I'd absolutely fight him."

Henderson was scheduled to fight current champion, Jon Jones back in September.  After hurting his knee, Henderson had to withdraw from the fight eight days before the event which ultimately led to the entire card being cancelled.

Despite being the number one contender before his injury, UFC president Dana White chose Sonnen to fight Jones, skipping over Henderson.

Sonnen is coming off of a loss to middleweight champion Anderson Silva and hasn't fought at 205 pounds since 2005.

Popular opinion was that Sonnen was undeserving of the title shot and that he got the fight by talking his way into it.

Henderson lashed out on Twitter following the announcement of the Jones-Sonnen fight by saying, "I should just quit training to win fights and to be exciting for the fans and just go to [expletive] talking school."

"It doesn't sit quite right with me," Henderson told Fox 11's James Koh.  "They degrade the whole process. Why are guys trying to fight the top guys to be the number one contender when it doesn't really matter."

Henderson has been promised another title fight should he get past fellow contender Lyoto Machida at UFC 157.

"I should bring my track shoes, chase him down and make him fight me," Henderson said regarding the elusive former champion.  "He's quick and tricky and little bit different."

Henderson is predicting a knockout come February 23rd at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

"Hopefully it's with my left hand this time," Henderson said.
