Shot on location in the streets and neighborhoods of Los Angeles, "Southland" captures a realistic, natural environment where similar situations can and often do occur in real life. It premiered four years ago on NBC, where it received less-than-stellar ratings. NBC was impatient and cancelled the show before it had a chance to find its audience.
TNT picked up the show and it has since thrived. Tonight, the show will begin its fifth season giving viewers a raw, authentic look at the lives and work of Los Angeles detectives and beat cops. One of the main characters is Officer John Cooper, a seasoned cop who developed a drug problem after recovering from surgery.
Cooper is played by veteran actor Michael Cudlitz who joins us this morning on "Good Day L.A."
