Manufacturers routinely run focus groups in person and online surveys before they launch new products, or start thinking about changing old familiar products. From chewing gum to salad dressing to exotic new cars, there are surveys and focus groups for just about everything.
Consumer Savings Expert Jeanette Pavini from Coupons.com says focus groups recruit all types of people from housewives to doctors, depending on what products they are testing. She says in-person groups tend to pay higher than on-line surveys, and that online surveys tend to pay via gift cards, while in-person focus groups pay via cash or check.
