NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Chinatown rang in the Year of the Snake for the 14th annual Lunar New Year Parade.

Fox 5's Ti-Hua Chang was the Grand Marshall for this year's parade.

Thousands of parade goers lined Canal Street to see the colorful and elaborate floats, marching bands and performers. Some say the Year of the Snake is a time for steady progress and attention to detail.

According to Chinese tradition the wise and introspective snake brings rebirth and transformation.
