CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A man wielding a handgun robbed a Subway sandwich shop next to the Chicago Cultural Center early Monday, police said.
The man walked into the Subway at 66 E. Washington St. about 12:50 a.m., took out a handgun and robbed the store, said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro. The man then took off with about $400, according to unconfirmed dispatch reports, which also described the handgun as a semi-automatic weapon.
No one was injured in the robbery, Alfaro said.
The man, who is Hispanic, wore a dark colored hoodie, Alfaro said, and police believe he is in his 20s.
It was not immediately known if the man was behind 11 other late night robberies that have taken place since January. Those armed robberies include a Lincoln Park 7-11 store and a River North Dunkin' Donuts that were held up at gunpoint on Feb. 6.
Police said all of those robberies happened between 11:39 p.m. and 2:15 a.m. The suspect was described as a Hispanic man between 22 and 40 years old, 5-foot-5 to 6-foot-2 and 180 to 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark colored hoodie and a black knit cap.
Police have made no arrests as Area Central detectives investigate.
