NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Port Authority Police arrested Da'Quan Bowers of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at LaGuardia Airport Monday morning after officers found a loaded handgun in his carryon bag, the Queens District Attorney's Office confirmed to Fox 5.

Bowers, a defensive end, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, authorities said.

The weapon in question was a .40-caliber pistol, according to one report.

Bowers was supposed to fly on a US Airways flight to Raleigh, North Carolina, when he was arrested.

He was due to be arraigned sometime Monday evening, the D.A.'s office said.

Bowers, once considered a possible number one draft choice, was selected as the first pick of the second round of the 2011 NFL draft.
