BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – The Better Business Bureau is warning of a scam involving the national Do Not Call Registry.
Officials say scammers call potential victims and claim to provide an opportunity to sign up for the registry. They ask consumers to verify personal information.
"The scam has several variations," said the BBB. "In one, the caller wants to verify that you are on the National Do Not Call Registry. In another, he/she claims to give you a chance to register your phone number."
BBB officials say that consumers should hang up immediately. They said that the Do Not Call Registry does not call consumers.
To register for the real Do Not Call Registry, call 888-382-1222 or DoNotCall.gov.
