If you follow me on Twitter, you probably know I live in a magical place called @Puppyville that's inhabited by a very motley crew of rescued furry friends. There's the blind dog, the toothless dog...well, you get the idea.
So being a dog lover and a fan of random acts of kindness, I really enjoyed the story about Maria Sanchez trying to help reunite a stranger and his beloved pet, Buzz Lightyear.
But sadly, as often happens when there is cold hard cash involved, the warm fuzzy feelings surrounding the reunion quickly faded, turning now to threats of lawsuits and lawyers.
Maria Sanchez says she wants Dave to get ALL the money that SHE raised and was donated for Buzz the Dog. The money that's leftover after she paid to bail the poor dog out of the shelter and paid all his medical costs, etc.
She just doesn't want to give him cash because she fears it might be misspent...it's not hard to read between the lines of her Facebook post.
But Thomas apparently feels the money is his and he should get it all. In cash.
So now she's offered to refund every penny leftover to the people who donated it in the first place. And if they want to give the cash to Thomas, she says, great.
Most of the posts on Maria's Facebook page are overwhelmingly supportive of her and the amazing effort she made to find this man and raise the money to save Buzz. Thomas has supporters too, who say he should get the cash.
Will this really end up in court?
Somehow I think if the dispute were between dogs, they'd work it out in two shakes of a tail and share a milkbone afterwords.
People – not so much.
