Winter storm clips Detroit area, makes for slow commute

Posted: Updated:
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

A major storm that dumped snow across the Midwest clipped the Detroit area Friday, bringing 1 to 3 inches of snowfall and making the morning commute a slow and slippery one.

The snow began to fall in the western counties around 6:30 a.m. and continued through 11 a.m., leaving behind dozens of weather-related vehicle crashes.

In Wayne County, over 100 salt trucks hit the roads at 5 a.m. "The trucks were loaded and fueled so we were ready to tackle the storm," said Cindy Dingell with the Wayne Co. Department of Public Services.

Weather Authority Ben Bailey says we can expect dry conditions for the remainder of the day. It will be cloudy with high temperatures reaching 35 degrees.
