Alleged drunk driver crashes truck into business

Posted: Updated:

A valley business had an early morning wake-up call after a truck smashed through one of it's walls early Saturday morning.

Emergency crews responded to Jeff's Professional Audio Repair on 19th Avenue near Indian School Road after the driver of a pick-up truck drove right through an exterior wall.

"I get a phone call, alarm was going off and then I get a phone call back about 10 minutes later that someone ran into the building. I really wasn't expecting a truck to be parked in my building," said Frank Ryba, an employee at Jeff's Professional Audio Repair.

Police say the man behind the wheel admitted he was impaired and beer cans were found outside of the truck on the floor of the shop.

The driver was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Employees of a family clinic located next door were grateful no one else was hurt.

"I thought it went inside our clinic too, but thank God it didn't," said Cindy Rubalcva, who works next door.

"We get worried sometimes because we have patients inside the rooms so if something happens like this somebody can get hurt," said Katrina Lopez, who works next door.

The owner of the business pointed out that there are no skid marks. He doesn't think the driver of the truck even hit the brakes before taking out a portion of the fence that surrounds his property.

"There used to be a bench sitting there where people sit," said Joe McGregor, the auto repair shop owner's friend. "Luckily it was in the middle of the night."

The truck remained inside the business throughout the morning while engineers checked the place out and determined if it was safe to move the vehicle or if the structure was compromised.

No word on whether or not the driver of that pick-up will face any charges.
