Varsity basketball players participate in "Threes for Sandy Hook"

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Basketball players in the tri-state area took part in a fundraising program to help the Newtown, Connecticut community.

The program is called "Threes for Sandy Hook" and it began as a way for the Newtown Nighthawks Girls' varsity basketball team to channel their sport into healing.

Over 500 hoops plates participated and the program is very simple – for every 3-point shot made, a $3 donation is made to a fund for Newtown.

On Sunday, a benefit hoops game was played at Ramapo College of New Jersey in Mahwah.
