Authorities say a 28-year-old man is being held in the death of his girlfriend, whose body was found inside their Farmington home after he reported her missing.
Police say the man called them Saturday night to report the 29-year-old woman went missing after dropping him off at home.
After checking with the woman's friends, police say they searched the home for signs of foul play. While doing so, what appeared to be bloody plastic was found. At that time, the boyfriend was detained pending further investigation.
Investigators say the man told them the woman died after a domestic dispute turned violent. Her name and cause of death weren't immediately released.
A friend of the victim, who wanted to remain anonymous, says the couple met while working together at a restaurant years ago.
Prosecutors are expected to review the case Monday for possible charges. Sources say an arraignment is likely on Tuesday.
Police say this is the first homicide in Farmington since the summer of 2005.
