Used to be we had to worry about fire drills,
unfortunately we have to do more lock downs!
Glendale schools Superintendent Dr Richard Sheehan,
announced extra security measures at high schools including upgrades on security
cameras and panic buttons going directly to police.
The discussion began after the Sandy Hook Elementary
shooting in Newtown. Connecticut.
The funds had been approved from measure S, so it was
just a matter of getting ideas from Glendale Police...which they have now done.
Student reaction ranging from " that is SO
cool" to " just the idea of having to have a panic button, makes me
panic",although no one thought it was a bad idea.
Measures do not include arming teachers..."we are
educators" added Sheehan.
"Now, that would be scary" says one student from RD White
Elementary, where a bomb threat prompted the evacuation of 880 students in
January.
The measures are already in process, and not being
detailed,you guessed it,for security reasons.
