LENOX, Mich. (WJBK) -

In rural Macomb County gun ownership runs deep.  For some, shooting and hunting are a way of life.

Peak Powersports in Lenox has a new promotion.  Have a concealed pistol license, then it's time to save some money.

"So you come on in, show your CCW and... you get 15 percent off," said Nick Lefurgey, who runs the family business.

He is also sending a strong message to lawmakers, who some believe are working to deprive gun owners of their Second Amendment rights.

"I'm a rights supporter, period, be it gun or otherwise," Lefurgey said.  "Everybody's entitled to their choice, and I believe in that and we believe in that."

The gun rights debate is taking center stage after President Obama started pushing for a ban on assault weapons in the wake of the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.

Peak Powersports isn't the first to launch this controversial promotion.  Lefurgey got the idea from a Virginia pizza shop that saw its business go up 80 percent.

It certainly is a promotion drawing a lot of attention, but Lefurgey said you don't have to have a gun to cash in on this discount, just a permit, and there is a reason why.

"I'd actually encourage most people to go out there and get their CPL to begin with.  If you don't like guns, it's going to teach you gun safety, gun handling," he explained.  "I think there's a lot of existing laws out there already that handle a lot of these issue, but I'm not a politician.  I sell motorcycles, so that's kind of what I'm going to stick to."

Lefurgey is shocked by just how many people have started to respond to this promotion.  Now he hopes it will just generate more customers because traditionally this is the slowest time of the year.
