Superbug spreading quickly

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A new superbug virus strain is spreading quickly and is hard to kill.

Dr. Roshini Raj, a gastro-enterologist at NYU Langone Medical Center, discussed the dangers associated with the superbug during Good Day New York on Thursday.

  • at least seven deaths were traced to the infection in an outbreak at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center in 2012
  • the superbug springs from a type of bacteria that is resistant to antibiotics and can linger in the body for more than one year
  • the bacteria can cause pneumonia, intestinal and urinary tract infections and bloodstream infections
  • doctors say it is impossible to eradicate the superbug
