Posted: Updated:

NEWPORT BEACH (CNS) - A woman's body was found today face-down in the sand, Newport Beach police reported.

The body of the Asian woman, who appeared to be in her mid-20s, was discovered just before 6 a.m. at Tower 71 and the waterline near Highland Street, said Kathy Lowe of the Newport Beach Police Department. The woman was 5-foot-2 and had a thin build, Lowe said.

Investigators were working to identify the woman, who was found by two people walking on the beach, Lowe said.

"Detectives are trying to determine who she is and the possible cause of death," she said.

Anyone with information was asked to call Detective Garrett Fitzgerald at (949) 644-3797.
