How likely are you to live to 2023? A simple checklist could help you find out.
Researchers at the University of California came up with the list to help older patients and their doctors improve care. It's based on data from a study of 20,000 US adults over the age of 50.
The checklist includes 12 factors, including age, sex, weight, level of physical ability and awards points. The higher the score, the higher the likelihood of dying in the next 10 years.
Researchers say the findings can help doctors determine what kind of screenings and treatments for diseases will be most effective for patients based on their estimated longevity.
The study is published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
