High-Speed Rail: Dissent On Board

Posted: Updated:

At a California High-Speed Rail Authority meeting Wednesday in Northern California, board vice chair Lynn Shenk said she opposes the so-called blended plan, which funnels rail money to local commuter agencies.

She said she doesn't consider it really high-speed rail.

Schenk's opposition meant that the board would not have the votes it needed to ratify what's known as a "m.o.u.," or memorandum of understanding.

Chairman Dan Richard then postponed the vote until April, when a board member who was out of town for today's vote would be present.

Rail watchdog Morris Brown, an opponent of the current high-speed rail plan, was at the meeting today and he told FOX 11's investigative producer Heidi Cuda that it's the first time he's witnessed dissent within the board.

Brown said, "Schenk made it clear that she can't support the blended approach at the expense of high-speed rail."
