CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
The St. Baldrick's - FOX 32 Schools Challenge continues this week, with Leo High School boxers, the fire academy and a brave little girl named Al-asia. This year's campaign has already raised $500,000!
Leo High School students and Chicago firefighters are being brave and going bald as part of the challenge, Al-asia and kids like her, to show solidarity and support as they strive to overcome cancer.
Al-asia's mom Charmanique said she's in remission for the second time now, and has never given up the fight.
You know that old saying, it isn't the size of the dog in the fight, but the fight in the dog.
As the bell rang, FOX 32's Patrick Elwood soon learned that when it came to boxing big Logan from Leo High, the saying did not apply. After a couple of swings, he learned he wasn't about to move this mountain of a young man.
At least he found Patrick amusing before he unleashed his fists of fury! He was laid out quickly. Patrick's junior reporters Alexis, 9, and Grady, 6, stepped in to see how these students planned to support kids with cancer.
Alderman Bob Fioretti shaved Alderman Nick Sposato's head Friday, along with a group of local first responders. They could be happier to do it, since they all have personal connections to this cause.
The firefighters had a push up contest, and Pat said he would donate $1 for every push up they did.
Cancer survivor and St. Baldrick's friend Josh was also on site to share his story. He's doing pretty great now!
FOX 32 supervising producer Brian Duewel and his son Riley joined Pat at the fire academy Friday morning, and shaved their head to support kids fighting cancer. Great job guys!
Together we can make a difference!
