DeKalb County residents seek answers at town hall

Posted: Updated:
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

Residents in DeKalb County are demanding answers with the area facing a school district accreditation crisis and questions of county leadership.

Saturday, residents gathered to try to get answers from county commissioners. For many of them, the current state of the county boils down to a lot of problems to solve.

Recent developments, such as the school crisis, an investigation in to the county's CEO, and economic development issues, have many wanting those answers.

The dominant issue has been the school district being placed on probation by its accrediting agency. Saturday, the panel Governor Deal assembled narrowed the list of replacements to the school board down from the over 400 to a couple of dozen in a big step to try to avoid the district's worst-case scenario of losing its accreditation.

The residents who showed up for a town hall meeting on Saturday with county leaders want to know how they plan to move forward and plan for success. They might have not gotten their answers Saturday, but many pledge to keep on it.

Also at the meeting, DeKalb County Commissioner Lee May told residents that the commission has passed a budget that will not raise taxes and will put more police and firefighters on the street.
