DACULA, Ga. -

A wounded Iraq war veteran who sustained a lot of tragedy in his life enjoyed a moment of triumph on Tuesday. Through the help of private donations, he and his family have a new lease on life after losing virtually everything.

Adam Egli, 27, and his family received a new home courtesy of the Military Warrior Support Foundation.

"It was rough. When it was bad, it was really bad," said veteran Adam Egli.

While on patrol in Iraq, his armored vehicle struck a roadside bomb killing, three men. He survived, but sustained severe leg injuries that forced him to retire. Then, he lost his home to a storm. But, things changed after they learned that the veteran's organization gave him a new home.

"I flew home and grabbed her, and said we got the house. We stood there and like jumped and hugged," said Adam.

They received their keys Tuesday morning. The family is grateful that the foundation stepped in to change their fortunes for the better.

"This program has helped us so much because we have a house! And we didn't have one before. And it's just amazing," said Adam's wife, Danielle.

The program has helped some 300 veterans nationwide. They say that they are always looking for more veterans to extend that helping hand to. That helping hand goes beyond the house itself. They say that there are support programs along the way to help veterans transition back into civilian life.
