LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The City Attorney's Office announced today a compensation agreement has been reached with two newspaper carriers who were wounded by police officers hunting for former LAPD Officer Christopher Dorner.
Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck previously pledged to provide a truck to Margie Carranza, 47, and her mother, Emma Hernandez, 71, who were delivering newspapers Feb. 7 in Torrance when officers mistook their truck for Dorner's.
Hernandez was shot twice in the back, and Carranza was injured by broken glass. Their blue Toyota Tacoma was riddled with more than 100 bullets.
Beck called the shooting "tragic" and promised to provide a truck from a donor despite the possibility that the women would sue the city and department.
However, Glen Jonas, the women's attorney, said this week the women still did not have a truck. The attorney said his clients were offered a new Ford truck to replace their Toyota, but the women would be liable for taxes on the new vehicle.
Details of the latest agreement were expected to be released this afternoon at a news conference with City Attorney Carmen Trutanich and Jonas.
The remains of Dorner, who was accused of killing four people, including a Riverside police officer and San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy, were found inside a burned-out Big Bear cabin after a shootout with law enforcement Feb. 12.

Certain projects, such as adding a well thought-out family room can be a wise investment, as they do add to the value of the home. Other projects, however, allow little opportunity to recover the costs when it's time to sell.
