Clayton County police arrest 2 carjacking suspects

Posted: Updated:
CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -

Police in Clayton County have made two arrests in the violent kidnapping of a motorist on Monday. As many as four suspects are still on the run, authorities said.

Police identified the two men arrested as 24-year-old David Starks and 29-year-old Frederick Anderson.

According to Clayton County police, the 69-year-old man was on his way home from work at around 5 a.m. when he was jumped by five men by gunpoint. They forced him back into his car, and took him to a convenience store. At the store, they forced the victim to withdraw money from an ATM.

Investigators say they then took him to a nearby neighborhood, and discussed whether or not to kill him. They decided to let him go, but not before they beat him severely. Police say he is in the hospital with multiple bruises and an eye socket that may be fractured.

Authorities said that surveillance footage of one of the suspects using the ATM and the license plate on the car leaving the gas station led them to the two men arrested. They are still seeking other suspects.

"There is possibly five, maybe six suspects altogether involved in this. We do have two. We definitely want to  make sure that we are able to follow all leads, all investigations, so we can further on with the charges for all  parties involved," said Officer Danielle Rosa of the Clayton County Police Department.

Starks and Anderson are scheduled to have their first court appearance on Saturday at 9 a.m.
