Cop who fired gun in Highland High School resigns

Posted: Updated:
HIGHLAND, N.Y. (AP) -

A police officer who accidentally fired a shot in an upstate New York high school hallway has resigned after investigators found he used poor judgment.

The Lloyd Police Department said Friday that Sean McCutcheon was alone in the hall when he managed to fire a round into the floor at Highland High School while taking his Glock pistol out of its holster on March 5.

McCutcheon was there as part of a safety program started in January following the Newtown school massacre. The school district in Hudson Valley town of Highland suspended the program after the mishap.

Nobody was injured.

Lloyd is in Ulster County, 65 miles south of Albany.
