Metro area could see wintry mix at week's end

Posted: Updated:

Old Man Winter might have one final chill up his sleeve before spring arrives. FOX 5 Chief Meteorologist Ken Cook says there's a chance of a wintry mix at the end of the week.

A storm system currently on the west coast is rapidly moving eastward. It should combine with colder temperatures on the next couple of days, and if enough moisture arrives by Friday morning, Ken says we could see light sleet or snow in the metro Atlanta area late Thursday night/early Friday. Residents in the north Georgia mountains could even see a light dusting, Ken said.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Freeze Warning which is in effect from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday.

Bottom line: don't put your winter gear away even though spring is set to officially begin on Wednesday.
