Many of you know that I have two sons, but do you know that I have a two year old and a 26 year old? I joke about it sometimes, saying that I planned it that way to avoid any sibling rivalry! But seriously, it was the summer before my senior year in high school when I found out that I was first pregnant. I definitely had not planned it.
After considering all the options, my baby's father and I decided that I was going to keep our baby. I will not lie, it was not easy. I do not recommend it for anyone.
My senior year in high school was a challenge. Many of my teachers and counselors urged me to leave school early and take my GED. I refused and went to school as long as I could.
I never went to my Senior Prom but I graduated with honors and my family was there for me graduation night with my 3 month old boy. In light of it all I think we all turned out ok. Actually, better than ok!
I want to take this opportunity to share a little bit of my struggles and successes. Mainly, I want my story to be a source of inspiration for those of you who may be going through an unplanned pregnancy like I did. It didn't stop me from continuing to pursue my dream job and it shouldn't stop you.
I had always wanted to work in television and despite being delayed for a few years to take care of my son, I never lost sight of my goal. Yes it was challenging at times going to college and working the evenings and graveyard shifts at two restaurants to support us. There were many days of very little sleep, but it was worth it. You will be proud of yourself in the end. And as my older son has told me many times, he is proud of me too!
With baby number two, my experience as a mom today is vastly different from my first. It is so wonderful to be a more mature parent, married and more financially secure this time around. But it is definitely not without any new challenges. I'll continue to share some of the differences here. And boy, there's a lot of them! If you have any questions for me about what it was like then and what it is like now, please leave them below. I will be sure to answer them as best I can.
Thank you for reading my story. :)
