Normal service returned to the Long Island Railroad Monday after a week of disruptions due to a derailed freight train.

But a short time later, service was suspended in both directions between Port Washington and Great Neck because of a broken rail west of Port Washington Station. It was restored by approximately 7:30 a.m.

The railroad also is adding trains Monday afternoon due to the Passover observance, which begins at sunset.

Salvatore Arena told Newsday "We're on target. Everything should be back to normal" on Monday.

The derailment occurred last Monday west of Jamaica, Queens.

The idea is grand: to take the 7 train and connect Queens to Manhattan to New Jersey. But as with all these massive projects, the chorus gets quiet when asked who will to pay for it. While business interests announced plans of an economic impact study, no one has even a ballpark number for a price tag.

With a camera mounted to his helmet, a cyclist headed northbound on 4th Avenue in Manhattan. As he neared East 14th Street, the taxi door swung open and the cyclist slammed into the door and went down. But it's the aftermath where things got weird in an "Only in New York" kind of way as the blame game started. The cab driver was upset because he said his door was damaged.
